Some of our NRI team members recently returned from another visit to our Project 7 Children's Village in Haiti. We had the opportunity to meet and pray with the Haitian leadership. We have worked together for quite some time now and I can see we have the great benefit of being able to be honest with one another. We also have a significant amount of love for each other so this felt like a family meeting! In the meeting, they asked for things they would like to have such as a playground, more Bible study materials, seeds for the garden, more community outreach to help their neighbors, storage for the children’s clothes and last but not least…a bus!
That’s where all of you come in! It's time to pray big. A bus is a very big expense but they need it. We have transported the kids to and from school in our big construction truck for the last couple of years. Although this is a very common form of transportation in Haiti (tap-taps, their taxi system, are usually small trucks that take people where they need to go), it really is time to get a safer and better vehicle to transport the children. Part of the problem is that almost everything is imported into Haiti. They make very few of their own products. To get a quality bus we are looking to buy it in the United States which means we will need to pay to ship it and also pay for customs once it gets to Haiti. This often means we have to pay as much as we paid for the item to have it released. It could potentially cost thousands of dollars to get the bus to Haiti.
If I have learned one thing from working with this Project in Haiti, it’s that the Lord always comes through! And it always happens through prayer. So that’s why I’m writing to all of you today. Will you join with us in praying for this big need? I know God will come through! He loves these children and has given them new life full of hope and promise!
One last thing that I would love to share with you from one of our meetings. Gabby, the leader of the Haitian Committee, said these words -- “God is good and we are grateful. There can be difficulty when you bring nations together to work on one project. God is glorified because it is difficult and it’s all because of Him that we can do it.” Isaiah 24:14-16 They raise their voices, they shout for joy; from the west they acclaim the Lord’s majesty. Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord; exalt the name of the Lord, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea. From the ends of the earth we hear singing: “Glory to the Righteous One.”
