Of course we have a heart for the people in every part of Haiti, not just the northern area where we've established a Children's Village we call Project 7. [All our kids and local staff are safe in Trou du Nord.] We've been watching the progress of Hurricane Matthew and waiting for reports from friends who live near Les Cayes, Jeremie and Pestel. These areas have been hit hard. Buildings have been swept away by raging water and bridges are out, leaving these areas isolated from aid and support. We have a contact who sent us this message: "No Way To Send Pics And Phone Will Die Soon. Roofs, Water Reserves, Electrical Boxes All In Streets, So Many Houses Swept Away In Flooding. Over 100 Houses Gone."
We don't have original images, but you can find photos here and here.
The devastation is unimaginable. We are partnering with our friends at Little Footprints, Big Steps who have been on the ground for years. They are actively moving throughout the hardest hit communities of Les Cayes, Jeremie, Grande Anse and wherever else there is need.
