The kids are out of school for the summer, but that doesn’t mean they are just sitting around! The Haitian Committee [COBSAMAT] and Alicia Grant [NRI Vice President] have worked together with community business people to facilitate expert mentoring and vocational training on the Project 7 land. Business owners are coming onto the land to teach our kids specific skills.
One woman runs a local bakery and is teaching classes on baking and how to run a business. We are offering classes in basic sewing/tailoring, floral arrangements, jewelry making, tile installation, window making and installation (which is a rare art in Haiti) and music art. One of the beautiful characteristics about our kids is that they love to learn! You will see in the following pictures how attentive they are and how much they want to understand these skills.
Our good friend Dave Reierson along with Mike Mansfield are in Haiti this week installing a water filtration system. The very exciting plan [besides having our own fresh water], is for the Project 7 Children's Village to use this water system for income generation! We plan to sell 5 gallon jugs of filtered water to the community.
A year ago, the Haitian Committee [COBSAMAT] asked specifically for this system to use in order to start a business. Dave was gracious enough to raise half of the funds necessary and also went to a seminar to learn how to transport and assemble it. Over a year ago Dave helped us make our second well more functional. He is the founder and Executive Director of Hope 2 Others International (H20 – isn’t that clever!?!). He travels to Africa, drilling wells and then training the village people so that they can maintain their well and keep it functioning for years. We are blessed to have his help!
Colossians 3:23 says “Whatever work you do, do it with all your heart. Do it for the Lord and not for men.” Please pray that our children learn skills that they can use as they grow. Some of our children are older meaning this is definitely the time to start learning life skills. Also, pray that the water filtration system becomes an successful business over the next few months. Thank you for faithfully remembering these kids in your prayers!
