I woke up this morning with this section of Scripture on my mind:
"The Spirit of the Lord God is on me, because the Lord has chosen me to bring good news to poor people. He has sent me to heal those with a sad heart. He has sent me to tell those who are being held and those in prison that they can go free. 2 He has sent me to tell about the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day our God will bring punishment. He has sent me to comfort all who are filled with sorrow. 3 To those who have sorrow in Zion I will give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes. I will give them the oil of joy instead of sorrow, and a spirit of praise instead of a spirit of no hope. Then they will be called oaks that are right with God, planted by the Lord, that He may be honored.” Isaiah 61:1-3
This Scripture is a prophecy about Jesus. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus actually stands up in the synagogue, reads the first part of this Scripture, then tells all the people in attendance that “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”. Sometimes life can be hard. We can struggle with health issues, struggle financially and even worse, lose people we love. This Scripture assures us that there is hope and His name is Jesus!
Think of the kids in Haiti -- they have all been affected in some way by either abuse, abandonment or neglect. This Scripture assures us all that Jesus has come to heal us, set us free, give us comfort, and turn difficult things into something good. That truly is Good News! The Lord sent Jesus to free us and to bring us close to God. Let’s keep praying for God to heal their hearts, turn their sorrow into joy and give them renewed hope for the future
