Peace Through Healthcare
+ Peace Through Justice #refugeecrisis
We sent a team to Greece in July to visit refugee camps and discover greatest needs. Connections were made with other organizations such as Do Your Part, Adventist Health, Armando Aid and the International Organization for Migration [IOM]. We were able to help in areas of education and law and found that dental care is a huge unmet need.
Looking forward, NRI will focus on immediate aid in Greece, bringing in short term volunteers who can provide specialized services. We will remain flexible as needs in the country change, providing mental health care and education, public health education, and legal support as needed.
Dental Relief Trip In November 2016
Adventist Help has been working tirelessly on the ground in Greece for over a year now providing medical care to refugees coming ashore on the island of Lesvos. They have now moved their main operations to the Oinofyta camp, which has the capacity to house two thousand refugees in tents and the abandoned warehouse building seen in the photo below.
New Reality International is partnering with Adventist Help and AMEN [Adventist Medical Evangelism Network] to provide dental relief, not only for the people living in the Oinofyta Camp, but for local Greeks in need of free dental treatment as well. Currently, there is little to no access to dental care and the vast need continues to grow. Many in the refugee camp come seeking help, especially children, with badly infected and painful teeth and gums. Abscesses form, making it extremely difficult for them to eat, and potentially causing a deadly infection to spread into the rest of the body.
In partnership with AMEN, we are sending a large group of dentists to the Oinofyta Camp November 6-13 to see as many patients as possible. If you are a dentist, hygienist, oral surgeon, assistant, even a student in dental school, we invite you to join us on this trip. Another smaller group will visit other refugee camps in Northern Greece November 12-20. Please email for more information about this trip.
